Quit your addiction to porn before it kills your business.

Your heart races.

Images flash through your imagination.

Technology that can enhance your effort.

No, I’m not talking about smutty magazines and various ‘devices’ you can buy online.

I’m talking about marketing porn.

I’m talking about the tell-tale signs your addicted to marketing porn!

Marketing porn might get your juices flowing, excite you but will ultimately leave you with a mess!

So what is marketing porn and how do you get addicted to it?

The easiest way to answer that is to revert back to the porn we all know (and some love). Porn, is an unrealistic outcome, a representation of a future or possibility which is not based in reality. It’s out of your league, not possible in your reality.

You’ve read about the new tools, seen a great campaign for a corporate. You want it. You want their success so badly but you are not prepared to put in the work. You want it and you want it now!

You want the end result without the commitment. You want the sexy tools but not the time or investment to see them work for you.

When you want an outcome so badly, you will do and try anything to get there, but if it doesn’t do it in your timescale you will throw it away and move on.

Just like conventional porn addiction can lead to sexual dysfunction, addiction to marketing porn can lead to organisational dysfunction.

Organisational dysfunction as a result of a shallow approach to marketing shows itself in a number of different ways:

  • Chopping and changing campaigns at short notice.
  • High staff turnover in marketing and sales.
  • No clear plan for the way forward.
  • Campaigns launched from a place of ‘did you see what they did’
  • Butterfly decision making (make a decision and flutter off to the next thing).
  • Repetitive strain injury (You’ve already done that and it was painful).
  • You’re desensitized. You’ve seen so much sexy stuff, you can’t execute because it cannot meet your creative standards (even if it will deliver the right outcome).

Marketing and business growth does not come overnight. I advise clients that whatever strategy is implemented today could take up to two years to see the full benefit.

So you need to quit this addiction to instant gratification before it kills your business.

You need to quit it before your best people quit out of frustration.

You need to resist the temptation to shoot from the hip.

You need to write a plan and resist your urges to deviate because you see something more appealing.
